Rochester Counseling Associate's Karen

Karen graduated from Oakland University in 2000 with a specialization in Family & Marriage Counseling. After receiving her LLPC (Limited Licensed Professional Counselor) license, she went to work at Lapeer County Community Mental Health. At LCCMH, she saw a wide-range of clients, including the more seriously mentally ill with diagnoses of Bipolar I Disorder, Schizophrenia and other chronic conditions.

Over the next 2 years, Karen completed 3000 hours of supervised practice experience and received her full counseling license, LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). Over the course of her career, Karen has also held positions at Sanilac County Community Mental Health, Eastwood Clinics, Oakland Family Services, the Metropolitan Detention Center and the Rio Grande Counseling and Guidance Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In these varied positions, Karen has gained experience with a broad range of counseling issues such as partner relational problems, anxiety and depressive disorders, substance abuse/addictions, parolee-community integration, and other specialties.

Karen works from a perspective of acceptance. Unconditional, positive regard is one strategy she uses to convey her acceptance of clients and establish the therapeutic alliance. Once that collaboration is established, Karen utilizes a range of CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) strategies to assist clients in gaining resolution of their issues and in building productive, satisfying lives. Her experience and unique perspective have allowed Karen to create a warm and caring environment at Rochester Counseling Associates. From the moment you enter the suite, you begin to experience this welcoming acceptance. The office environment is designed to provide a safe and relaxing experience for clients.

Our testimonials show just how much Karen has positively impacted her clients’ lives!

Karen is excellent. Her office is very welcoming and inviting from the moment you walk in the door. She greeted us right away and made us feel very comfortable. The service she provides is excellent – she is thoughtful, caring, and non-judgmental. She offers advice and opinions, but also offers strategies to take home to help her patients work on their relationship and communication skills on their own. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking to work on difficult issues faced by any couple, and we will continue to see her even after we move out of state. Thanks, Karen! – C.P.

Karen is very welcoming, sweet, and she is not judgmental. She took the time to listen to our concerns and issues as a couple. Now, we are on the road to recovery. I have learned a lot about myself and ways to improve myself for our relationship. I would highly recommend making an appointment to see Karen. – S.
